Why Choose Triangular Boxes?

Why Choose Triangular Boxes?

We’ve recently supplied a large order of triangular boxes to a leading, global producer of loudspeakers. This shaped box provided the ideal packaging solution for shipping speaker covers, but why did they choose triangular boxes instead of cylindrical tubes or long rectangular packaging?

The Strongest Geometric Shape

Triangles are known to be rigid shapes which show great resistance to forces. As such, they are used in architecture and design when strength and stability are essential. So, it makes sense that they also provide a practical and protective packaging solution.

However, they aren’t widely used, so much so that when we mention triangular boxes one brand of chocolate springs to mind! They have stuck with the same shape packaging for over a century, so that is one endorsement.

If you sell online and want e-commerce packaging for long, slim products including fishing rods, bows for musical instruments or walking sticks, we’d encourage you to consider triangular boxes. They are also a great solution for rolled items such as art posters and architectural plans. And it’s not just about damage prevention, so let us explain some other benefits.

Triangular Boxes Don’t Roll

With three flat surfaces, a triangular box doesn’t roll like a tube. This makes it easier to stack, handle and display on the shelf. We’ve also heard the couriers find it easier to scan labels on a flat surface than on a curve.

Supplied Flat Packed

Triangular boxes are typically supplied flat-packed. This reduces the space needed for storing packaging. And, while we’re talking about space savings, fewer gaps are left when triangular packaging is packed into a shipping box. This aids efficiency and can reduce delivery costs.

Sustainable Packaging

When we manufacture triangular boxes, the length and ends are cut as a single piece. The ends simply fold shut when the contents are packed inside. This is different from tubes, which have separate lids to fix on the ends.

Currently, many of those lids are formed from plastic, so an alternative made from 100% recyclable cardboard is a more sustainable option. The removal of any plastic element was a priority in the brief provided by the speaker company.

Customised Boxes to Differentiate Your Brand

Tubes are usually supplied in standard lengths, but we can manufacture triangular boxes in custom sizes on-site. Tell us the length and inner diameter that will provide the best fit for your products. These can be produced in kraft brown or white cardboard.

The fact that triangular packaging is less common than rectangular boxes and cardboard tubes means that it immediately differentiates your brand. Then there’s the printing. For some print finishes, it is possible to add branding text and graphics as part of the manufacturing process. This is an effective way to reduce the costs of bespoke packaging.
