Packaging Advice for Start-up Companies

How to Make an Impact with a Limited Budget

There is so much to learn when you embark on a new business adventure. Where can you go for advice?

When it comes to packaging, Aylesbury Box Company has supported many start-up businesses, including subscription companies. We take time to learn about your products and advise on options that fit the bill and the budget.

As specialists in corrugated cardboard solutions, our packaging is predominantly made from recycled fibres (100% recycled is possible for some products). Our advice will also help you to reduce packaging materials and encourage repurposing and recycling. All this without impacting on quality or the protection offered by our boxes.

As we are being approached by ever more start-up companies, we thought a series of three blogs to address common packaging questions would be of value. This one focuses on how to make an impact without blowing the budget.

Does Cheap Packaging Offer the Best Value?

The first point that we want to raise is that many companies believe that the cheapest packaging option will be to buy a standard, off-the-shelf box. The idea that bespoke packaging can actually be a lower cost option seems crazy.

The per-unit cost of a standard box may be marginally cheaper, however, it is seldom the best value. It hasn’t been designed for your goods, so is likely to need some sort of filler to hold items in place during transit. The cost of fillers and your packing time is already helping bespoke boxes take the edge.

When considered packaging design has led to the manufacture of bespoke boxes, the products are held firmly in place. This will reduce the risk of the items getting damaged and enhance their presentation. In turn, this lowers the volume of returns that you are likely to receive. As returns eat into profits, this should be avoided.

A bespoke box will boost the perception of the value of your products. If printed, it can also help to build brand recognition. Both of these are important marketing strategies that offer long-term value.

How can I have Printed Packaging on a Budget?

Bespoke packaging can be completed with a range of finish options that showcase your brand. Aylesbury Box Company advise on affordable print options. A great way to make an impact is to consider flood printing in a vibrant tone. There is no tooling to set up for flood printing and the process can be undertaken as part of box manufacturing. This makes it low cost.

Flood printing has been a popular option for making an impact when the box is opened. The outside can remain plain, but when opened, your products are off-set by deep colour, which adds to your customer’s delight.

We can match any RAL colour for flood printing, so which shade would you opt for?
