Panda Power: WWF & Sustainability

Panda Power: WWF & Sustainability

Sustainability: a word that has edged its way into board room discussions, seminars and training and process management. As with any initiative, a convincing argument is crucial for the concept to catch on.

Business owners need more than ‘doing your bit for environmental protection’ to take action. With this in mind, The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has embarked on a research campaign to present a viable business case for responsible forestry management.

Retailers Leverage

WWF recognises that retailers are in a strong position to initiate change.  Retailers can opt for sustainable supply chains and influences change in how materials are sourced. They also have the power to sway consumer choice.

As an early stage in the process, WWF has recently published the results of a survey. Fifty global retailers were questioned on the effect of embedding sustainable practices in their business. Data on the environmental impact of their actions is difficult to evidence, but the bearing on their business is tangible.

60% of the retailers stated that customer satisfaction and stakeholder engagement had increased since sustainable practices were introduced. The impact within the company was even greater, with 70% stating that the ethical approach had been received positively by their employees. As working for a ‘good’ company can boost morale and retention rates, the long term benefits are clear.

When it came to brand reputation, 80% of the surveyed companies said that sustainability had had a positive impact. The retailers identified that the ethical approach had made them more confident about public reporting. They also felt it gave them a competitive edge over their competition and would improve sales.

Cardboard Box Manufacturer

As a cardboard box manufacturer, we are part of the supply chain for many retailers. Our focus on sustainable materials and processes has supported many customers to work towards environmental targets.

We’re not the only cardboard box manufacturer to use recycled paper and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood pulp; it’s now standard industry practice. We have however coupled this with waste reduction initiatives, environmental printing options, local delivery services, LED factory lighting and even an Eco cleaning company, in order to reduce our environmental impact.

If you are ready to reap the rewards, could Aylesbury Box Company help your business to build a sustainable supply chain?
