Strong Boxes for a Landscaping Merchant

When you have weighty items to send, strong boxes are essential. This was the case for a local landscaping merchant. When the time came to upgrade their sample boxes for Vande Moortel Clay Pavers, Paving and Decking, they gave us a call.

Hard Landscaping Materials

Country Supplies is an established Buckinghamshire business with a reputation for quality stock and reliable services. They supply a wide range of landscaping materials, including fencing, aggregates and sleepers to landscaping and fencing trades, as well as domestic clients. The company has been in business for nearly 3 decades and boasts many long-standing customers.

Deciding which type of clay pavers, natural stone, porcelain or composite decking to install often requires consideration. Fortunately for customers, Country Supplies has a showroom, where the colour, texture and finish of materials can be viewed and compared. However, they often wish to take samples away, so they can see them in the setting where they are to be installed. Other customers request samples over the phone for postal delivery.

Reuse Doesn’t Always Tick the Boxes

For many years, Country Supplies have reused old boxes to package samples for customers. Whilst this is an environmentally sustainable solution, it presented a few issues. Firstly, finding the right-sized box for orders wasn’t straightforward. Secondly, the boxes weren’t always sufficiently robust for the weighty contents. Finally, this approach lacked a connection to the brand.

There is also the issue that some trade customers would be taking samples to their clients. When these arrive in a tatty old box, it also impacts their reputation.

When Country Supplies decided to upgrade and have custom packaging made, they got in touch.

Priorities for the Packaging Design Brief

There were three main priorities in the packaging design brief that they discussed with us:

1. The packaging had to be fit for purpose. They needed strong boxes that were sufficiently robust to hold and ship up to 10 samples of weighty landscaping materials. They explained what would typically go into a samples box, so we could advise on dimensions that offered the best fit.
2. With a passion for the natural environment and green spaces, sustainability was a priority for the Country Supplies team. This meant avoiding plastic packaging, ensuring the boxes were made from recycled content and that they were fully recyclable. It was also important to them that their packaging manufacturer was local, as this minimises the carbon footprint of deliveries.
3. They wanted to feel proud about the packaging they were sending out. In line with their products, they wanted quality boxes, that communicate a professional message. The branded boxes could elevate their image and also benefit landscapers and fencers who were showing options to clients.

Packaging Solution: Branded Strong Boxes

We designed strong cardboard boxes, with internal and external print for Country Supplies and sent them samples. This provided the opportunity to check the print quality and test the strength. With the team’s approval, the first order was manufactured and delivered.
