If keeping the children entertained is a priority, Little Sowers kits are available. These include plants which are relatively quick to grow, to retain interest. The flower box has sunflower, poppy and oxeye daisy seeds. The vegetable box has teeny tomatoes, football carrots and pumpkins. There are also free activity resources available for enthusiastic young growers online.

When Sow Clever was considering the e-commerce packaging for deliveries, they spoke with Aylesbury Box Company. As a family business, where building appreciation of the natural environment is a priority, they were keen to use recycled materials. They were determined to avoid plastic packaging and our corrugated cardboard boxes met their requirements.

In a recent article, we talked about the packaging being part of the product. Sow Clever is another great example of this. We worked on a bespoke packaging design where part of the delivery box is used as a seed tray in the planting process.

The Sow Clever subscription boxes are the perfect size for 30 plants to be grown every month. When the packaging is used, it can be placed in the recycling bin. It will be collected, pulped and made into more cardboard boxes!

Printed Stickers Offer Cost-Effective Packaging Option

Working together, Aylesbury Box Company and Sow Clever achieved a simple, yet delightful print design, which gives the cardboard subscription boxes a personalised style. Sow Clever use the same box for all ranges, with printed stickers to differentiate the contents.

In addition to the main subscription boxes, Sow Clever ordered small e-commerce boxes for their mini kits. Again, printed stickers are applied to the boxes to show the contents. This is a cost-effective solution, as it allows the same, simple box order to be used across the range. If new lines are introduced, printing stickers is cheaper than ordering new boxes.

Giving Back

There is plenty of evidence to show that being outdoors and engaged in gardening activities is beneficial to mental health. Focusing on our gardens, or even a window box, can make us feel uplifted.

This awareness led Sow Clever to commit to donating 10% of their profits to Mind, the Mental Health charity in England and Wales. As such, receiving a Sow Clever box can make you and someone else smile.
