Prost to Oktoberfest!

Autumn has arrived and for some of you, that means one thing; Oktoberfest! One of the biggest celebrations in Europe, the traditional Bavarian festival has spread far and wide. You might be heading off to an organised event. However, if you are hosting your own party, we’ll let you know about a few of our packaging customers who know a thing or two about beer.

What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest dates back to a 5-day celebration to mark the wedding of Prince Regent Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe Hildburghausen. This 1810 event included a folk festival and horse racing that members of the public could attend. The public wanted more and seeing the potential to attract crowds of people and generate revenue, support was given to make it an annual event.

Over time, fairground rides replaced horse racing. However, the traditional costumes of Lederhosen and Dirndls, along with Bavarian brass band music remain. Each year the event kicks off at Schottenhamel in Munich, where the Mayor taps the first keg.

In Munich, around 7,000 dancers, musicians and floats fill the streets with a colourful and energetic parade. There are a variety of tents throughout the city where beer flows and you can tuck into a spit-roast chicken and Brezels. However, you don’t need a passport to get involved and enjoy the ambience. UK Oktoberfest events are held in cities and towns through October.

Best of British Beers

If you are keen to host your own party, you can stick with German beer brands or indulge in the best of British beers. We supply bottle boxes to some fantastic local companies that could keep you stocked up. Here are a couple of options:

Direct From the Brewery

Established in 1995, Vale Brewery offers a top selection of beers including Pale Ales and Bitters. The Head Brewer has enjoyed 25 years of developing the perfect balance of flavours. All you have to do is order boxes of 12 bottles or cans or a 5-litre mini keg for delivery to your door. The company also offer regular brewery tours, where you can discover more about the process and enjoy a taste.

Best of Local & Beyond

Wendover Beers is a small, local retailer specialising in craft beers. Their selection includes locally sourced, British and European favourites, many produced by microbreweries. Can they tempt you to join them for a monthly tasting event? The last Thursday of the month is a great chance to learn more about the complexities of flavours!

Lower Calorie Beer

The owners of Prime Time Beer enjoy a pint, but they also enjoy keeping fit. So, they designed a lower calorie lager, infused with caffeine that makes you energised rather than sluggish. Promising a clean, crisp flavour their cans of lager and Session IPA contain just 95 calories. What’s more, they are gluten free and vegan friendly.

Local Manufacturer of Drinks Packaging

Account manager Helen is always on the lookout for local breweries that might benefit from a local packaging supplier. She even competed in the Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery Sportive back in June, which saw her cycling to several potential customers. However, you don’t have to wait for her to come to you.
