Packaging Design is Part of the Brand
Good packaging design is created with thought to the product, the customer experience and the brand values. Far more than simply a shipping box, it communicates a message to customers; what does your packaging say?
Bespoke Boxes for a Product Launch
Last year, we were contacted by a business that was preparing to launch. Combining expertise in precision engineering, technology and creative design, Simpson & Partners specialise in EV home charging models and smart home energy devices. Account Manager Helen visited them to understand more about their products and packaging requirements.
In the meeting, Helen applied her knowledge of cardboard engineering and packaging design to suggest suitable protection, presentation and locking solutions for shipping boxes. Every aspect of these boxes needed to communicate the brand values.
Helen discovered that Simpson & Partners is a family-run business with a commitment to quality design and build, trusted performance and British manufacturing. Their universal home chargers are safe and built to last. What’s more, they look stylish; we believe they have created a design classic!
Others agree as you can see in this Smart Home Charge review:
“The design is undoubtedly the main appeal of this charge point, boasting exquisite lines and incredible craftsmanship. It’s a great looking product and manages to feel handcrafted somehow. It isn’t, of course, but locating production in the UK clearly has benefits for quality control. You get what you pay for and Simpson & Partners have produced excellent products with excellent service.”
Printed Packaging
When we talk of branded packaging, the first thing that comes to mind is usually print design. In this instance, the sleek design also serves a practical purpose. A printed template on the box shows where to drill holes and this helps position the charger during installation.
It was also important to Simpson & Partners that all packaging was fully recyclable and sustainable. So, our eco credentials as an FSC© certified packaging manufacturer was an asset. In addition, it was agreed that the shipping boxes would be printed with water-based inks.
Tried & Tested Packaging Design
Our next step was to manufacture and print sample boxes to send to Simpson & Partners. The packaging design was checked to ensure it met the company’s high-quality standards. Then, it was put to the test, feedback was gathered and minor amendments were made. This thorough process ensured that all the requirements were met before proceeding with the final packaging design.
The company wanted the delivery to coordinate with the publishing of their website and official launch. The printed boxes arrived on time and, shortly after, they were being packed and shipped to customers.
“We are delighted with the whole project and feedback from our customers has been very positive. They consider the packaging as part of our brand. They can see that thought has gone into the design and manufacture, as it does with our product range. We also appreciate Aylesbury Box Company’s wiliness to think long-term and actively support new businesses. Their packaging advice, helpful service and flexibility with payment terms made all the difference to us at the start of our business journey.”

Future Projects in the Pipeline
The product range at Simpson & Partner is expanding and they are awaiting a new prototype. We are looking forward to working with them again on packaging design for this latest product.
