Lighting up a Winter’s Day

Through the darkest time of year, candles bring a cosy, subtle light to every home. To bring a little warmth into your winter’s day, Aylesbury Box Company would like to introduce three candle companies that we have helped with their packaging design.

Bella Hope London Candles

Bella Hope London candles are made with 100% natural ingredients. Organic soy wax is blended with pure essential oils and contain an unbleached cotton wick. When it came to packaging design, Bella Hope wanted a classy, quality finish that would appeal to their target audience. It was also important that all of the candle packaging is recyclable, reusable and biodegradable.

Having previously sourced packaging from Aylesbury Box Company for another business, it was natural to approach the team to discuss packaging.

“We knew that Aylesbury Box Company were reliable and that they work with you to find the right packaging solution. Helen was very thoughtful, considering shipping and protection from damage, as well as visual appeal. With the candles inside and the final embellishments that we add, the boxes compliment the whole presentation.”

– Susie, Bella Hope London

The final packaging design could grace the shelves of any top boutique. The bespoke boxes are flood printed in black, white gold and pink, with the company logo, candle name and other detailing in gold. It emits a feeling of luxury and indulgence.

The aromas of each candle have been inspired by destinations across the world; St Tropez, Kyoto and Zanzibar to name a few. The range has been named after these exotic places. When lit, these candles can take you to those holidays that we long to return to. Would you favour the spices and woody fragrance of Muscat or Seville’s scent of mandarin and bitter orange?

Although the candles evoke lands afar, they are all designed, sourced and hand-poured in Britain. Visit the Bella Hope website to see the full range.

Chiltern Candle Company

Taking inspiration from closer to home, the Chiltern Candle Company has developed a range that is influenced by the surrounding Chiltern Hills. English Primrose and Blackberry and Pear are two popular choices. At this time of year, Winter White – mistletoe and green stems, Winter Woodland – cedar and pine cones and Winter Spice – cinnamon, orange and clove make great gifts. Look out for limited edition aromas throughout the year.

Chiltern Candle Company also use 100% natural ingredients; soy wax, cotton wicks and essential oils with no artificial ingredients. Quality and sustainability are considered at every step of the process. If you want to understand how it all comes together, they even offer candle making workshops, which will resume when it is safe to meet in small groups.

It was several years ago when we first met to discuss packaging design. The company wanted boxes for their candles in glass and favoured simplicity. The final design is a clean white box with embossed sections and subtle grey printed text.

As the range varies, it was cost-effective to keep the packaging quite plain and organise sticker printing. These stickers are carefully positioned in the embossed sections to differentiate the range.

The Chiltern Candle Company products are sold in National Trust shops and gift shops. You may also spot them at local artisan gift fairs throughout the year.

Charity Candles

Candles have long been lit in memory of loved ones. This tradition is continued by Nadia Pomfret of Ally’s Candles. Her son tragically died of a heart condition which he had no symptoms. To honour him and raise money for Cardiac Risk in Young People (CRY), she turned to candles.

Friends and family have been able to light virtual candles on the dedicated website. Taking this a step further, Nadia has been in discussion with Aylesbury Box Company to design boxes for candles that can be sold. We are working on litho-print boxes with gold detailing.

Gift Box Candles

If you are looking to bring light to your home or to your friends and family through winter, consider purchasing from one of these local companies. Supporting small businesses and charities is a fantastic way to make a big difference this Christmas.
