Cardboard Creations Set for the Stage
Every once in a while, we receive a request for cardboard from a local organisation. Usually, it’s boxes, but earlier this year we were asked for some very large sheets of flat cardboard. The request came from a group of students at Aylesbury High School. So, what was this for and can we see the end result?
Large Scale Cardboard Theatre Prop
The sheets of cardboard were required to make an enormous mask, which will be used as a theatre prop in The Wiz. This family-friendly performance has a cast of over 200 local young people. They will bring to life the story of Dorothy and friends, as they follow the Yellow Brick Road.
The Wiz is a community fundraising event, organised by Florence Nightingale Onstage and Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre. They contact Aylesbury High School to ask if anyone would be willing to volunteer their time to create a huge green mask. Fortunately, a team of Year 12 students were up for the challenge and they contacted us to help them out.
The girls have dedicated many lunch breaks to transforming the flat cardboard. 3D elements, paper mâché and a lot of paint have resulted in a spectacular final piece that will provide an impressive backdrop during the show. We include an image of work in progress, but if you want to see the final piece, you best book tickets for the show!
All money raised from ticket sales will go to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity. It will be used to provide hospice care to people across Buckinghamshire.
Aylesbury Community Project
Young people will be spending their summer holiday learning their lines and rehearsing their parts. The show takes place on Sunday 27 August at Aylesbury’s Waterside theatre in the centre of town. We’re sure it will be a sell-out! What a brilliant community project for Aylesbury and such a fun way to raise much-needed funds.
