Distinctive Single Colour Print Packaging

Single colour print is a low-cost option for creating bespoke boxes. You may think that being restricted to a single colour limits creativity, yet we’ve seen some fantastic packaging designs. What do you need to know to get low cost printed packaging that with impact?

How to Make an Impact with Single Colour Print

All corrugated cardboard boxes start as plain brown or white. When these are delivered, you have no idea who the package is from and what’s inside. However, the addition of print can transform a boring box into a work of art!

The issue is, that if you opt for full colour, printed packaging can bump up the price. However, a single colour print has minimal additional costs, so how can you use this to your advantage?

Select a Strong Colour for your Print Design

One option is to pick a striking tone. Typically, this is consistent with your brand colour, but you might want to use different shades for seasonal promotions or to differentiate product ranges. Pick & Mix London is a great example of using bright colours.

Their vibrant teal and white or pink and white packaging have a retro feel. Eye-catching and fun, it fits perfectly with the branding.

Explore Reverse Print Design

One option is to consider how the base colour and the printed layer work together. Reverse print can produce great effects. This is where the majority of the cardboard box is printed, with areas blanked out to reveal the base colour.

Invite an Illustrator to Create Great Graphics

Another idea is to get creative with the graphics. We have worked with brands including Georganics, Buckt and Craftiosity that use illustrations of their product range to great effect on their boxes. The graphics on their delivery boxes are a beautiful representations of what they offer. It builds excitement as soon as the packaging is spotted.

Two-tone Print

For a couple of print designs, we have been able to create two shades of the same colour in a single print run. This, along with the base white or brown, offers three for the price of two! A low-cost packaging solution that can sometimes fit the bill.

Full Colour Printed Packaging

If you love vibrancy and prefer a multi-colour print, we are fully equipped to provide full-colour printed packaging. This can be especially impactful for shelf-ready boxes and retail packaging. The best print technique will depend on the volume of packaging, the desired finish and the budget. Speak to one of our experienced team and we’re happy to advise.
