Packaging and Perception
Popping the cork on a new branded packaging
As consumers, we all make instant decisions about products based on their packaging. It is intuitive. The packaging influences our perception of the product and whether it can meet our requirements. The packaging design, print, graphics and font are signals of the product’s value and that shifts our attitude towards it.
Cheers to The Real Kombucha
Real Kombucha is a non-alcoholic alternative to sparkling wines. Following an ancient oriental art, the delicate flavours are carefully crafted from a hand-selected blend of loose-leaf teas. These undergo a natural fermentation process to create the sort of floral and fruity aromas associated with distinguished wines.
After years of careful development, Real Kombucha has created two crisp drinks. Dry Dragon and Royal Flush are the perfect accompaniment for fine dining. The fact that these drinks are served in restaurants owned by Tom Kerridge, Michel Roux Jr, Isaac McHale and Heston Blumenthal is testament to the quality and taste. Branding the Bottle and Box
When planning the branding for Real Kombucha, the team were keen to reflect the quality craftsmanship involved in the process. Looking east, they focused on the Inkan prints that are used by officials and artists in place of a signature.
The Inkan print is stamped onto original documents and artwork as a sign of authenticity. Formed from a carved Hanko stamp, parallels can be drawn with European wax seals. This symbol of quality was the ideal solution for Real Kombucha.
Rethinking Packaging Design
When Aylesbury Box Company started working with Real Kombucha, their drinks were sold in 275ml bottles. We created a three-bottle presentation package to showcase this emerging drink. The bottle and cardboard packaging were akin to a trio of craft ales produced by many of the popular micro-breweries.
Presented in this familiar style of packaging, consumers perceived that the drink should be served in a tumbler or even drunk from the bottle. The company, however, were keen for it to be seen as ‘champagne reinvented’; a British sparkling wine, without the alcohol. Restaurants were also requesting a bottle for the table. It was time to reconsider the packaging.
A Genuine Alternative to Sparkling Wine
To be perceived as a genuine alternative to sparkling wine, the company increased the range size by introducing 750ml bottles with a pop-able cork and vibrant labels. The content was the same, but the new packaging encourages it to be poured into a champagne flute and sipped. The subtle flavours can then be fully appreciated.
Aylesbury Box Company created a new packaging box for individual bottles. We explored ways to add a touch of luxury whilst keeping the packaging affordable. The Inkan branding remains, but it has undergone an upgrade; gold print on white corrugated cartons.
This was the first time that Aylesbury Box Company had used flexographic print, rather than litho printing with gold ink. The results were good and the process is less expensive, so Real Kombucha was delighted.
“Aylesbury Box Company worked hard to meet our demands. They helped us to design our packaging and delivered what we wanted. It is great to support local business and minimise our carbon footprint. We have certainly benefitted from the versatility and convenience of having a packaging company just up the road.”

Cartons for E-commerce Deliveries
Another development for The Real Kombucha was the launch of an online shop. The company needed robust packaging that would ensure that multiple bottles didn’t get broken when handled by couriers. Aylesbury Box Company were able to provide cartons for e-commerce deliveries that we fit for purpose and printed, yet kept costs to a minimum.
As lockdown was enforced, online sales grew. Real Kombucha needed a tight turnaround for packaging to keep up with orders. Aylesbury Box Company delivered, so every customer received their box of refreshing beverages; the ideal tonic for a warm, sunny evening in the garden.
My dad was diagnosed with a pancreatic adenocarcinoma (cancer). Pain started to appear periodically in the last stages of the disease. At the hospital, we were prescribed https://medtecllc.com/buy-tramadol/ in the form of intramuscular injection.
