Living in a Box: Cardboard Tents
The summer is drawing near and for many people this means they are a step closer to spending their weekends enjoying live music, entertainment, street food and the festival atmosphere.
From the epic scale of Glastonbury to smaller family festivals, or even a celebration with friends in the garden, the true spirit of a festival is getting together to enjoy live entertainment.
Festival Camping
An essential factor in almost any festival is camping. Love sleeping under canvas or not, few people enjoy packing up their tent with a hangover! Having adopted a care free spirit, the thought of trying to dismantle the tent and get it folded back into that tiny bag can be a step too far.
The truth is that around a quarter of all tents are abandoned at the festival site. This makes for an unsightly scene of destruction when the event is over, most of which can’t be recycled.
KarTent: Cardboard Accommodation
The reality of this situation led two Dutch festival goers to work on a design for an eco-friendly tent. KarTent has evolved from an initial concept through to a commercial product and has recently been awarded with a prestigious Red Dot Award.
KarTent is a robust, single use tent made from 100% corrugated cardboard. The tents are pre-ordered, delivered to the festival site and erected, ready for use.
As a robust, natural insulator, corrugated cardboard makes for a practical construction material. It remains cool and dark inside, so no disruption from sleep as the sun rises. The design is also remarkably water resistant. The plain cardboard design is easy to print with sponsor branding, festival specific designs or simply for the campers to personalise with their own artistic skills.
If you aren’t really the festival type, KarTent could also be erected in the garden for summer sleepovers or a kid’s play den.
100% Recyclable Material
Unlike a traditional tent, when the corrugated cardboard tent has served its purpose, it can easily be broken up and recycled. The fibres may well be used to create tents for next year’s festival goers and the cycle continues.
KarTent proves that cardboard is sufficiently robust to provide a temporary home. It is also the ideal material for protecting your products. We’ve yet to create a corrugated cardboard tent, but there’s always a first! Give us a call to discuss your cardboard packaging requirements.
