Is Cardboard Packaging Still Good Value?

Is Cardboard Packaging Still Good Value?

Aylesbury Box Company has recently had to put up the price of our cardboard boxes. We’re not alone. Globally, the cost of cardboard box manufacture has soared this year and a price increase is the only way for box companies to remain commercially viable.

Why has the Cost of Cardboard Boxes Increased?

Greater Demand for Cardboard Boxes – The rise in online shopping has led to a growing demand for cardboard boxes. There’s been an annual increase of around 10% in recent years.

Short Supply of Paper Fibres– The vast majority of cardboard packaging is recycled, but new paper fibres are also needed in box production, especially with rising demand. China and India are major paper producers, but they have a limited supply of the soft wood trees that are ideal for paper production.

Closure of Paper Production Facilities – An international paper factory in America was closed in January following an explosion. It contributed 5% of America’s paper, as well as shipping supplies across the globe. The factory has yet to reopen, adding to the supply shortage.

Paper Prices – Growing demand and reduced supply resulted in a 23% increase in paper costs in the first 3 months of 2017. As a critical raw material for cardboard box manufacture, there is little option but to put box prices up.

Is Cardboard Still a Good Packaging Option?

Any price increase can leave customers wondering whether there is a cheaper option. We’d like to provide reassurance that good quality cardboard packaging remains a cost effective solution.

Cardboard is Green – predominantly made from recycled materials, reusable and recyclable, cardboard is a sustainable packaging material that supports global carbon reduction targets.

Cardboard is Versatile – easy to cut, shape and print in a variety of forms, cardboard’s design potential is extensive.

Cardboard is Resilient – strong, durable and robust, cardboard boxes provide excellent protection for goods during transport, storage and shelf display.

Cardboard is Lightweight – this allows postal costs to be kept low and makes the boxes more manageable for lifting and handling.

Cardboard is Practical – flat packed boxes are easy to transport, store and assemble when required. A cardboard box is easy to stack for warehousing, delivery and even on display.

We can understand the need to shop around, but even with the recent price increases, we believe it would be hard to beat Aylesbury Box Company’s cardboard packaging solutions.
