Branded Packaging for Moon Roast

E-commerce and subscription box sales have provided a fantastic opportunity for a small coffee roaster; enabling their fresh blends to reach customers who live further afield. However, they were keen to maintain the strong connection they have with regular visitors, so branded packaging was a must.

Is Branded Packaging Important?

To get you thinking about whether branded packaging is important, let’s start with a question; how do you want customers to feel when the postie hands them a package?

A plain brown box is far from exciting and tells them nothing about what’s inside. In contrast, branded packaging adds intrigue and instantly generates a positive engagement with your brand. The customer knows what’s inside and can’t wait to get the box open!

Either way, the customer receives the product they have ordered, but the experience is quite distinct. What’s more, if the packaging looks great, the customer is more likely to photograph it to share on social channels. This is a fantastic opportunity for extending your reach.

Branded packaging can help to tell your company story and showcase your values. For this reason, it is important to understand that packaging design is about more than decoration. Great packaging can highlight your commitment to quality and sustainability, whilst ensuring process efficiency. These were all essential requirements for Moon Roast.

Introducing Moon Roast

In 2012, Francis Bradshaw bought a roasting machine and installed it in a backyard barn. After a day in the office, he would spend evenings developing roasting profiles under the light of the moon. By 2017, the roastery had moved to converted, grade 2 listed barns on a nearby Farm.

The company selects specialty grade beans from around the globe roasting daily to provide the freshest coffee. The range includes single-origin coffees, bespoke blends and decaf. With a retail and wholesale offering. They can be purchased at the roastery kiosk, by ordering fresh coffee online or signing up for a coffee subscription. Visit The Yard café https://www.theyardhampshire.co.uk/ next to the roastery to taste.

“I was brought a coffee subscription for Christmas and what a brilliant idea. The selections that I have received to date have been outstanding and of a very high quality. So much so that I’ve stopped buying ground coffee from the supermarket and now just from Moon Roast coffee.”

– Verified customer review

It would seem that this business was in Francis’ DNA. His father was a leading coffee specialist, his great grandfather and grandad were highly successful tea and coffee traders and his uncle owned a tea and coffee firm!

Branded Packaging Requirements

Drawing on the night time enterprise that kickstarted Moon Roast, the company branding is black and light blue. In contrast with the dark, the blue takes on a luminous quality, evoking the light of the moon.

When we first discussed the packaging requirements with Moon Roast, their branding design was one part of the brief. Other priorities included packaging made from sustainable materials, suitably strong boxes for product protection and a quality feel. It was also important that packing and closing the boxes were easy. We felt confident that we could deliver a solution to match the packaging brief.

Francis had been told about us by another of our customers, Blue Box Coffee. He decided to work with us due to the trusted recommendation, our competitive pricing, the quality of our boxes and the helpfulness of our team.

“It took a fair bit of back and forth with different sizes and designs, however, we had great assistance and patience from Aylesbury Box Company and have achieved exactly what we wanted. I’m impressed with the overall look, quality of the box and print.”

– Francis Bradshaw, Moon Roast Founder & Director

The branded boxes include a self-seal strip. When the box is packed, the top layer of the strip is pulled off to stick the box closed. This quick and easy process keeps the goods securely packaged until the boxes are opened by customers. It’s simple and effective.

We finish with the summary of a review of Moon Roast by Above Average Coffee:

“Moon Roast have a lot of respect for their craft, and a lot of care goes in through the whole process, from buying, to roasting, to selling. These are the kinds of coffee businesses I love, passionate people working hard to bring you delicious coffee.”
