What’s Inside the Box?

Although corrugated cardboard offers protection and insulation, your products may require more. Bubble wrap, polystyrene balls and air pockets have been widely used to help keep products in pristine condition during transportation. They certainly work, but with a growing number of organisations making moves to become plastic-free, what are the alternatives?

Triple-walled Corrugated Boxes

When products are particularly weighty or fragile, we recommend that packaging boxes are manufactured in triple-walled corrugated cardboard. The structure of this multi-layered solution is incredibly robust. It offers considerable resistance to pressure, bending, impact and temperature changes.

Triple-walled corrugated boxes are a lightweight packaging solution. They can be reused many times and at the end of use, they are fully recyclable. As box manufacturers, we can produce triple-walled packaging to the exact dimension of your products. This eliminates the need for fillers, but what if you need to keep components separate?

Improved Presentation with Cardboard Inserts

Whether there is a practical need to keep different components apart, or you are looking to achieve more professional presentation, cardboard inserts are an ideal solution. They can be formed as part of the box design or provided as separate elements which slot into place.

Cut to size, they hold items perfectly in place. Cardboard inserts can also be printed to complement or contrast with the colour on the outside of your box. They have provided the perfect solution for many of our customers, but if cardboard inserts do not fit the bill, what fillers are available?

Plastic-free Box Fillers

There are a variety of paper-based fillers which are fully bio-degradable. When brown paper is scrunched, crimped or shredded, it forms pockets of air. These solutions all work to hold items in place and provide an added layer of protection.

For gift items, a popular choice is tissue paper. This comes in a full spectrum of colours, so you can find the ideal shade to enhance your packaging. If you are looking for something a little more bespoke, Aylesbury Box Company can print tissue paper with your branding or a stylish design. Items can be wrapped in tissue paper, it can be scrunched to hold items in place, or it can line the box to add a touch of luxury.

One of our customers sends delicate glass baubles in our cardboard boxes. When it came to fillers, they decided to opt for straw. As a natural material, straw will bio-degrade in the garden.

Then there is the challenge of keeping consumable items at the right temperature. Some of our customers have inserted a WoolCool© lining into cardboard boxes. This innovation makes the best use of the natural insulating properties of sheep’s fleece. It is now widely used by food delivery services and pharmaceutical companies, as a sustainable alternative to polystyrene.
