Summer Holiday Fun with Cardboard Boxes

Summer Holiday Fun with Cardboard Boxes

On Christmas morning the large cardboard box is often just as (or more) exciting than the expensive toy that was packaged in it. With a child’s imagination, that big box can transform into a pirate ship, a racing car or a fort.

With six weeks of summer holidays ahead of us, we need simple and cheap ideas to keep the children entertained. Could it be that a large cardboard box is the answer to your prayers?

Let them Get Creative

You can leave your kids in the garden with a big box to decorate as they please. Chunky crayons, felt tips or a few pots of paint will allow them free reign on the decoration. They could glue leaves, pictures from old magazines or stickers to further enhance their designs.

You may well be asked to cut out a door or window or help with some other fiddly bit, but they can be largely left to their own devices. Other materials including cardboard tubes, egg cartons and toothpaste boxes can also be used to good effect.
