How to Live and Work Sustainably

On 31 March, a much-anticipated book is due to be released. ‘Going Zero: One Family’s Journey to Zero Waste & a Greener Lifestyle’ promises an honest account of fully embracing sustainability. Every decision made was informed by the family’s goal of minimising their environmental impact.

As a company that has been actively reducing our environmental impact, we’d love to tell you more.

Minimising Waste at Home

The majority of households are making conscious decisions to reduce waste. Refillable water bottles and bags for life, veggie patches in the garden and meal planning; all have a positive environmental impact. The question is, is that enough?

Independent columnist and Money editor, Kate Hughes, was determined to do more; she and her family set out to fully embrace waste minimalisation. Taking it to the limit, could they live without a bin? Containing humour and practical tips, her book could inspire more of us to greatly reduce our environmental impact. We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy!

An Education in Sustainable Publishing

What’s unique about this book is that the green ethics are embedded beyond the words. The author and publisher, Canbury Press, decided to use Revive – 100% recycled paper for the pages and the print company, Short Run Press, offered a plastic-free production process.

As a small, independent publisher, could they be leading the way in educating the industry in making sustainable choices? If greener alternatives can be used to produce books without compromising on quality finish or profits, there is hope that more publishers follow suit.

Where can you Get a Copy of this Book?

If you are interested in making sustainable choices, we recommend pre-ordering your copy of Going Zero from Bicester’s independent bookshop, Coles Books. It is a haven for book lovers and they make every purchase feel like a treat.

Coles Books are thoughtful booksellers who aim to deliver exceptional customer experience whilst minimising their environmental impact. To give an example, motion sensors ensure that areas of the shop are only lit when needed. The team are excited about getting this topical book in stock and are keen to read it for fresh ideas that they can put into practice at home and in the shop.

Book Mailers for Online Orders

Coles Books aims to stock books with broad appeal and they have gained a global reputation for sourcing and stocking signed editions. This means they have been shipping books far and wide for over a decade.

When it came to sending online orders, the company wanted sustainably sourced and fully recyclable packaging. The books needed to arrive in pristine condition so customers were nothing short of delighted.

Coles Books approached Aylesbury Box Company to discuss their requirements. More than simply functional packaging, they wanted book mailing cartons that looked appealing and were produced sustainably.

As an FSC® Certified packaging supplier, the two companies had shared values. We worked together to produce an internal, printed cardboard wrap and a printed shipping box. As corrugated cardboard is lightweight, these layers optimise the protection of the book, without unnecessary bulk, weight or filling materials.

The single-colour print design is formed from close up detail of the Coles Books logo. It’s simply beautiful and many customer reviews mention the quality of the packaging. Once received and unwrapped, the packaging can be reused or placed in the recycling bin. It can then be processed for reuse in the manufacture of new cardboard boxes.

So, you can buy Kate Hughes book (ISBN13: 9781912454693) about sustainability from Coles Books, knowing it is responsibly published and packaged. It’s great to see how businesses can work collaboratively to extend their shared ethics throughout the supply chain.

A video showing the book being carefully packaged for sending is on the Coles website: https://coles-books.co.uk/going-zero-by-kate-hughes-signed-edition.
