Chocolate Box Temptation

When it comes to buying the ideal gift, a box of chocolates is widely appreciated. From a small box of handmade truffles to a large selection box, they are a suitable way to say ‘thank you’, ‘congratulations’ or ‘well done’.

You really would have to have achieved something outstanding to receive the World’s biggest box of chocolates. This was produced in London’s Bethnal Green by Thorntons in 2008. They worked in partnership with Russell Beck Studios to produce the record-breaking box which measured 5040mm x 3420mm x 1000mm and weighed 1690kg. Let’s hope they were shared around!

Luxurious Packaging Design

Did you know that, until the mid-1800s, chocolate was consumed as a rich and sumptuous drink? Richard Cadbury was the first to create ‘chocolate for eating’. He sold his delightful treats in highly attractive decorative boxes. Right from the very start, luxury packaging was part of the chocolate eating and gifting experience.

Richard Cadbury is also recognised as the person responsible for associating chocolate as the gift of love on Valentine’s Day. His early box designs included lavishly adorned heart shapes that were readily snapped up as the perfect gift.

Packaging can really enhance the chocolate experience. You have to take time to gently pull apart a circular Charbonnel & Walker box, building anticipation before you reach the delightful truffles inside. Lapp & Fao created chocolate boxes that resemble a literary series that you want to get absorbed in, whilst the packaging of Bettys Cru Sauvage Truffles is simply opulent.

Most Expensive Chocolate in the World

A ribbon lined, gold box provides the packaging for a La Madeline au Truffle. The recipe includes single origin 71% chocolate with a rare Pengold Truffle at its heart. Designed by a Danish chef and sold exclusively by Knipschildt Chocolatier, a single boxed chocolate will set you back around £200.
