Cardboard Tubes and Alternative Options

At Aylesbury Box Company, we supply cardboard tubes. This cylindrical packaging solution can be ideal for presenting and sending a range of products including:

  • Paper documents such as posters and maps
  • Clothing (rolling can reduce creases and be more compact than folding)
  • Drinks Bottles – particularly popular for luxury alcoholic drinks
  • Cosmetic products – perfumes and hand creams
  • Tubes – Pipes, light fittings and industrial components

This is just a sample of the items that our customers have presented and sent in cardboard tubes.

100% Cardboard Tubes

The traditional cardboard tube is formed from wrapped kraft paper. This is typically sealed by a stopper made from metal or plastic.

In the last 12 months, we have received a greater number of inquiries about 100% cardboard tubes. This packaging solution is generally made using formed cardboard pulp. Rather than a tube with stoppers, a popular option is the telescopic cardboard tube.

With telescopic tubes, two tubes are created. One is slightly smaller than the other, so they slide together. One end of each tube is sealed with integral cardboard. The other remains open. Adhesive labels can be used to hold the tubes together.

Telescopic tubes remove the need for metal or plastic stoppers, which is an environmental plus.  We are in favour of removing plastic, but, Aylesbury Box Company does not have the in-house facilities to manufacture these tubes and we are yet to find a reliable, cost-effective supplier.

Alternative to Cardboard Tubes

Printed Triangular Postal Tubes

With a passion for sustainable packaging, Aylesbury Box Company does have a couple of 100% recyclable alternatives, which are worth considering.

Firstly, triangular postal have proven to be effective. We can manufacture and print these in-house, so your box can be made to the ideal dimensions for your product. The result is bespoke packaging at a fraction of the cost of a telescopic tube. Triangular postal tubes have been used for such products as fishing rods, paintbrushes, blueprints and a very iconic chocolate brand!

In addition to being a cost-effective option, triangular postal tubes have other advantages over the cylindrical shape. Firstly, they can be stacked, without rolling away. Secondly, when labels, bar codes and other digital information is positioned on a flat surface, scanning machines can read the information more easily.

Bespoke Boxes for Bottles

The other option is a long, narrow box. As cardboard box manufacturers, we create bespoke solutions to provide the perfect fit for your goods. Your bottles, cosmetics, candles can be well protected and presented in a box. We can even include inserts to provide additional support if required.

If you are packaging several bottles or jars together, our experience in gift packaging means we can advise on great solutions. We can use integral inserts to ensure that your products really look the part.
