Buckinghamshire’s biggest cycling event of the year is approaching, so what better time to focus on bikes? Back here in the office, we’ve been designing new inserts for bike boxes that hold the wheels and frame securely in place during transit. Let us tell you more.
5 Reasons to Get On Your Bike
A dry spell means that more of us are willing to pump up the tyres, put on a helmet and get on our bikes. From a commute to work to an evening ride with the kids, cycling is an enjoyable and eco-friendly means of transport.
Here are five reasons to get on your bike:
- Designated cycle routes can help you avoid heavy traffic and may be quicker than driving to some destinations!
- You can discover the stunning landscapes around your local area.
- Pedalling at your pace is a great way to get outdoors, exercise and build fitness.
- Joining a charity cycle ride is a wonderful way to raise funds for a worthy cause.
- Your company may offer a cycle-to-work scheme, which cuts the cost of buying a new bike.
Support the Tour de Vale Bike Ride
The Tour de France may be coming to the UK in 2027, but you don’t have to wait that long to support a cycling event. On Sunday 6 June, hundreds of cyclists of all ages will be biking the 25km, 75km or 11km routes around Buckinghamshire. Why not join them or head out and cheer them along? You’ll see serious racers, family groups and the occasional fancy dress costume. You might also spot a rider taking on the 75k route on a 62-year-old vintage bike!
The Tour de Vale is an annual event first introduced in 2004. Over the last 20 years, participants and supporters have raised £950,000 for Wheelpower. Will they hit the million-pound mark in 2025?
The money provides sporting opportunities and events for young people with disabilities. Individuals from across the UK get to enjoy participation in inclusive sports. For most, it’s a fun and sociable way to try different activities, However, some have discovered a talent and these events have formed the start of their journey to compete in the Paralympics.
We wish all competitors every success and a super day out!
Protective Bike Boxes For Shipping
Back in our office, Jan has been working on an adaption to a bike box for our customers Estarli. The outer shipping box that we supply to this specialist e-bike company is fine. However, they’ve requested some adaptions to the inserts for their range of folding e-bikes. Jan’s been designing and testing a range of options to hold the frame and wheels securely in place during shipping.
Corrugated cardboard is the ideal material for bike boxes, as it is both robust and cushioning. In addition, it is lightweight, cost-effective and easy for the customer or retailer to recycle. However, the risk of damage is greatly reduced if extra padding is provided within the box. These can be made to fit specific parts and slide into the box.
Engineering cardboard inserts saves bike manufacturers from using a tone of void fill. As such, they speed up the packing process and make less mess. It also fits in with sustainability goals. In the case of Estarli, they don’t just promote greener travel, they are also committed to sustainable production. This includes powering their factory with 100% renewable energy and using 100% recyclable cardboard packaging for shipping bikes.
